Davonte Brown is on the move, from Central to South Florida. The UCF cornerback and Fort Lauderdale native entered the transfer portal but wanted to stay in-state. He narrowed his options down to either Miami or Florida State, and in the end, he has committed to the Canes.

And so the Brown family legacy in Miami grows deeper. Davonte's father, Selwyn Brown, was part of the national title-winning team of 1987. Meanwhile, brother Damari, one of the top corner prospects of the 2023 class, also committed to the Canes a few days after Davonte decided to join Miami.

Miami has landed quite a player in Davonte Brown, who was a stellar player during his time at UCF. He appeared in 32 games over his three years in Orlando, making 86 total tackles with 17 passes defended and three interceptions.

Canes head coach Mario Cristobal has work to do to improve on a pass defence that was in the bottom half of the ACC in terms of passing yards allowed per game (233.6) and passing touchdowns allowed (20). Their 8.4 average yards per pass was the highest in the conference by a considerable margin.

Davonte Brown’s arrival will give Miami a much-needed veteran presence in the secondary with starting corners Tyrique Stevenson and DJ Ivey heading to the NFL. With his experience, he is ready to start and make an immediate impact on his new team.

Like his younger brother Damari, Davonte is a big defensive back (6-foot-3, 180 pounds) with the size and physicality that seems to make him an ideal fit in defensive coordinator Kevin Steele's man-to-man system.
